News for faculty and staffJuly 23, 2009IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Purdue in spacePurdue alumni astronauts speak at Apollo celebrationPurdue alumni Mark Polansky and David Wolf, who are currently on the shuttle Endeavour's mission to the international space station, provided a video message for the NASA celebration of the Apollo program on Monday (July 20). With a Purdue banner in the background, Polansky and Wolf talked about how the moon landing inspired them when they were students at Purdue and how the space program continues to provide inspiration for others. The astronauts ended their video with a cheer of "Go Boilers." To watch the video, click here. Polansky is chronicling the mission through updates on Twitter. His Twitter page is available here. On camera: 'Purdue's Place in Space' exhibitThe Purdue Libraries' Archives and Special Collections exhibit "Purdue's Place in Space: From the Midwest to the Moon" opened Monday and runs through Oct. 30 in the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center. A video about the exhibit, which celebrates Purdue's rich tradition in space travel and the 40th anniversary of alumnus Neil Armstrong's lunar landing, is available here.

More than 200 Purdue staff members and students joined forces on Tuesday (July 21) to install the Big Ten's largest campus supercomputer, named "Coates."
