Mr. Mamon Powers Jr. is president of Powers and Sons Construction. He began his career as a civil engineer with the American Oil Company (AMOCO) and then joined his father, Mamon Powers Sr. at Powers and Sons in 1971. He served as the company's secretary and treasurer until he was named president in 1987. 

Powers has more than 40 years of construction experience, completing projects throughout the State of Indiana and Northern Illinois. He has managed projects of all contract types, including: general contractor, construction manager, design builder, and owner's representative. 

In 1996, Powers was appointed by Indiana Governor Evan Bayh to Purdue University's Board of Trustees. He was subsequently reappointed to four additional terms by three governors and retired from his position in July 2011. In his final term as trustee, Powers served as vice chairman of the board. 

In recognition of his professional achievements, Powers was inducted into the Times BusINess & Industry Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2003, he was a recipient of the Purdue University Schools of Engineering Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award. In 2002, he received the Purdue University Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Award. 

Powers received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Purdue University in 1970. 

Key projects that have benefited from Powers' leadership have included the New Faith Baptist Church of Matteson, Illinois; the Hales Franciscan High School Renovation, Chicago, Illinois; Robert Taylor Homes Redevelopment, Phases I-IV, Chicago, Illinois; Gary Baseball Stadium, Gary, Indiana; and the Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, Indiana. 

Powers serves on the boards of numerous community organizations. These include the Fifth Third Bank-Chicago Regional Board of Directors and the Methodist Hospital of Gary and Merrillville, Indiana, where he is also chairman of the finance committee. He is a member of both the World Presidents Organization and the Chief Executive Organization; the former president of the Calumet Chapter of the Indiana Society of Professional Engineers; a member and former board member of the Indiana Associated General Contractors of America; a former officer and member of the Young Presidents Organization; and a former trustee of health, welfare, and apprenticeship funds of the Operating Engineers Local #150.
