Current Studies: Participate!

Word Learning

In our current project, we are testing ways to improve children’s ability to learn new words. Studies are planned to help the children learn and retain new nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

We are seeking both typically developing children (children with no speech/language delay) and children with Language Impairment, ages 4 ½ - 6, to participate in this study.

We are seeing children throughout the year, in our laboratory in Lyles-Porter Hall at Purdue University as well as in surrounding sites. Families are reimbursed $10 per visit for all participation in research.

As part of this research, we will complete tests of speech and language ability, a hearing screening, and other developmental measures. We discuss these results with families and provide them with a written report. We are also happy to share this test information with other professionals if the families would like us to do so.

No fees are charged for this testing because it is considered part of the process to determine if a child is appropriate for our research activities.

Language Production Study for 2-3 Year Olds

Children ages 2 years, 6 months old to 3 years, 11 months old are needed to participate in a research study on language production.  Children must be typically developing native English speakers.

Children will attend two-three 60-minute sessions during which they will play with toys, describe pictures, and play a sentence repetition game.

Children can be seen this year in our laboratory in Lyles-Porter Hall as well as in surrounding sites.  Children will receive a toy and parents will be paid $10 per session. Parents will also receive an assessment and written report of their child’s speech, language, and hearing.
