Hello! I love seeing your children every day. I am privileged to see their smiles, hear their laughter and stories that they share with me in passing.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Steve, for 23 years. We have two children: Hanna 20-married (works w/developmentally challenged adults), and Austin 18 (freshman at Purdue). My husband and I have 3 Yorkshire Terriers, 6 chickens, and a large variety of wildlife, (deer, coyote, opossum, raccoon, rabbits, etc…), that live on our 8 acres in Montgomery County.

I have over 18 years Clerical/Administrative experience. I have taught Sunday school for various grades ranging from K-12 for 17 years, and homeschooled my children for 8 years. I love volunteering at food banks, soup kitchens, and church outreaches.

I graduated from Ivy Tech Community College with a Technical Certificate in Early Childhood Education.

I am the Child Care Aide in the Red Room. Before coming to Ben and Maxine Miller Child Development Laboratory School, I have worked with toddlers and preschool age children at the Right Steps Childcare Center in Downtown Lafayette. I also have had several years of volunteer opportunities in various school systems. I love working with young children because of their positivity. They love to laugh and smile, which rubs off on me. It makes me have a happier outlook on life. I also love to be the one to help them learn and succeed; being a part of the development process is exciting!

In my free time I enjoy going on walks and hikes. I also enjoy being with my family and friends.

BS, Human Development and Family Studies, Iowa State University

I graduated from Iowa State University in 2011 with a degree in Child, Adult and Family Services with a focus on children and youth. I am very passionate about working with children and have been since middle school where I held many babysitting jobs. I was also a nanny and helped with before and after school programs in college and most recently was a preschool teacher’s aide.

I love helping children explore their surroundings and giving them a loving, supportive environment where they can play, learn and be successful. I am very excited to continue my passion of working with children.

I graduated from Konkuk University in Seoul with a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature and earned a teacher’s license for secondary education. I also have earned a CDA to work with young children in Indiana. I have taught at middle schools and elementary schools in Korea for over 10 years and worked as an early childhood educator in Indiana since 2004. I believe a good educator means being a good example because children do what adults do, not what adults tell them to do. I reside in West Lafayette with an amazing husband and enjoy watching movies, painting in oriental style, and playing board games with my in-laws and friends.

I have been working with children and families for over ten years and I love hearing the children's stories; laughing and learning with them. I like to be on the same level as the child and really see the world from their perspective. I am quick to observe and take a situation in before reacting which helps my interactions with each child because it gives me the opportunity to really get to know them.

I am a Native Hawaiian and have lived in Hawaii for a year with my grandparents. It was one of the best experiences; I go back there frequently to visit. I have two beautiful nieces whom I love to spend time with; we have a great time together. I am an avid sports fan and you can find me at a Purdue Volleyball game any weekend during their season. I also enjoy doing woodworking and usually have a few projects going at once; Pinterest is always giving me new ideas.

Hello my name is Twila Leslee Abt. I was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Of course I love all Pittsburgh sports teams especially the Steelers. I will also root for the Colts unless they play the Steelers! I have two sisters, Erin and Megan that I have a very close relationship with even though they live in Pittsburgh still. I met my late husband Steve Abt when we were both17 and married. I was a third generation steel mill worker, my husband Steve and I both worked at the mill until it closed in 1981. We had three wonderful children. My family and I moved to Zionsville, Indiana in 1991. In March, Lacy and I moved up to Lafayette with Luke and Skye. I am excited to learn the area and find my favorite places to spend time.
