Creating individual wellness vision for 2020 to be focus of Healthy Boiler workshop

Purdue’s Healthy Boiler Program is a multifaceted approach to employees’ overall well-being composed of five pillars: behavioral health, financial wellness, physical health, social wellness and work-life integration. In support of the five Healthy Boiler pillars -- and to help employees set their priorities, reach their goals and take charge of their health -- the “Create Your 2020 Wellness Vision” workshop will take place on Jan. 22.

Loral O'Hara during visit at Purdue

Purdue alum slated to graduate with NASA’s latest astronaut class

Two years after being named a NASA astronaut candidate, a Purdue alumna is preparing to drop “candidate” from her title. Loral O’Hara of Sugar Land, Texas, and a 2009 Purdue graduate, is one of 11 NASA candidates who will graduate during ceremonies this morning (Jan. 10) at Johnson Space Center in Houston. The ceremony will air live on NASA Television and the agency’s website.

Synthetic neurons project offers platform for
disease treatment

The body can recover from many things, but the damage caused by Parkinson’s disease isn’t one of them. No cure exists for Parkinson’s, which 1 million people in the U.S. are expected to be living with by 2020. But an outright cure isn’t the primary objective of research by Professor Chongli Yuan, leader of Purdue’s section of a multidisciplinary team studying the possibility of building synthetic neuron cells.

Loretta Lynch, who served as the nation’s 83rd attorney general, and former U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake will be the keynote speakers at this year’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration at Purdue. Lynch and Flake will discuss King’s legacy and introduce Purdue’s programmatic theme for 2020, “Democracy, Civility, and Freedom of Expression,” during their moderated talk on Jan. 22.
