Raising awareness on diabetes: Resources available all year long

National Diabetes Awareness Month is observed each November to raise awareness and bring attention to diabetes and the effects it has on the millions of people living with the disease. The prevalence of the disease creates a need for ongoing education and support, which the Center for Healthy Living on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus provides.

Things to Do

Resources available to assist employees with benefits open enrollment; enroll by 6 p.m. Tuesday
Faculty, staff certified in Mental Health First Aid training; additional training opportunities to be offered
Reminder for instructors with sponsored class projects or capstone projects
Nominations accepted for clerical and service staff excellence awards

Machine learning advances new tool to fight cybercrime in the cloud

Increased adoption of cloud applications, such as Dropbox and Google Drive, by private users has increased concern about use of cloud information for cybercrimes such as child exploitation, illegal drug trafficking and illegal firearm transactions. Researchers at Purdue have developed a cloud forensic model using machine learning to collect digital evidence related to illegal activities on cloud storage applications.

Holidays are ripe for
horrible financial scams

With the holidays just around the corner, people will be inundated with holiday emails, mail and deliveries. And scammers will be hyperactive. Scammers will target unsuspecting victims with similar-looking mailings, as well as fake emails and websites, says a Purdue researcher who studies exploitation of older adults.

Recognized as the 2019 Indiana Teacher of the Year, Purdue alumna Tamara Markey is dedicated to instilling a love for learning inside and outside of her classroom and is motivated by the giant leaps of her students. Markey is a teacher at the McKenzie Center for Innovation and Technology in Indianapolis.
