In the next 10 years, it is projected, 1 trillion devices will be connected to the internet. With the growing number of electronics comes a colossal amount of data available from every click on the devices. Data science is critical to finding relevant information that will help advance and improve society. At Purdue, the importance of instilling data literacy in students has become a key goal. The story of Purdue's Integrative Data Science Initiative is featured in Purdue’s Boiler Bytes series.

Wi-Fi ‘antenna’ provides
options for rural areas

Ah, the joys of living out in the country: the quiet, the space and the peacefulness. Then there’s the internet connection, which can go from bad to worse in many rural areas. Researchers soon may have an answer to help create better options for rural Wi-Fi – and the same technology may help airports and the rural transmission of critical data for utilities and other service providers.

The same technology used in jets soon may be powering personal cars and other automobiles. Researchers are now working to develop pre-chamber technology for automobiles to replace conventional spark plugs. “We have great potential at Purdue for research into automotive technology and the engines of the future,” Professor Li Qiao said.
