Planting at Southwest Purdue Agriculture Center

Photo gallery: A day on a (Purdue) farm

Planting and student tours make for a busy day at the Southwest Purdue Agriculture Center. Twice a year, the workers open the farm to elementary school students in Knox County so they can see how a farm operates. Rain and fog forced postponement of the event. So while farm superintendent Dennis Nowaskie and his team of six workers were busily plugging watermelons into the sandy soil on one side of the farm, another team of volunteers was leading some 450 third-grade students on a tour of the greenhouses, high tunnels and barns located on the site.
