Purdue breaks record with faculty Fulbright Scholars

Eight Purdue faculty members this year won Fulbright U.S. Scholar Awards, more in a single year than ever before. These 2019-20 Fulbright recipients will be conducting research, teaching or a combination of both in Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. Two of them are among only 20 nationwide to win Global Scholar awards, for which they will spend their time in more than one host country.

2019 University teaching award recipients: Cynthia Harwood, Heather Howard and Elizabeth Karcher

Purdue this year honored its exceptional teachers with the Excellence in Instruction Award for Continuing Lecturers and the Exceptional Early Career Award. Today's profiles will focus on Cynthia Harwood, continuing lecturer in the Department of Chemistry; Heather Howard, assistant professor of libraries and information studies; and Elizabeth Karcher, assistant professor and undergraduate programs coordinator in the Department of Animal Sciences.

Residential village to offer
urbanist community living
in Discovery Park District

A walkable, new urbanist neighborhood development called "Provenance” will set center stage for people who seek a quality of life that is close to the energy of a university campus and become the fifth major project announced in the past two years for Discovery Park District. The district is a $1 billion, long-term project to transform the west side of the Purdue campus as a preeminent environment for intellectual discourse and high-tech commercial enterprise.

Learning ‘Passport’ could
advance education into
the digital world

DelMar Software Development, in partnership with the Information Technology, Teaching and Learning Technologies division at Purdue, has launched an online learning management system platform that uses digital badges to visually demonstrate user competencies and achievements. The system, called Passport, allows instructors to create and organize a variety of course content to award digital badges to recognize students’ successful completion of learning activities.
