Purdue students have the opportunity to save up to 30 percent -- or $6 million -- a year on textbooks thanks to a new and unique collaboration with Amazon. Purdue and Amazon have launched the Purdue Student Store on Amazon, a new, co-branded experience where students can purchase lower-cost textbooks and other college essentials. And for the first time ever, Amazon also will bring staffed customer order pickup and drop-off locations to Purdue's campus, as well as expedited shipping benefits phased in over the course of the 2014-15 academic year.
Purdue's efforts aimed at student affordability continue to attract national attention as President Mitch Daniels announced another trendsetting move on Wednesday morning (Aug. 13). Daniels went live on CNBC's "Squawk Box" to discuss the many measures Purdue has taken to address student affordability, including the latest -- the launch of the Purdue Student Store on Amazon. Research news
A Purdue student team has designed, built and tested a critical part of a new rocket engine as part of a NASA project to develop spacecraft technologies needed to land on the moon, Mars and other cosmic venues.

The director of Purdue's Center for Animal Welfare Science will lead a two-year research project to develop and test science-based, nationwide animal care standards for the commercial breeding and raising of dogs.
The federal government expects Indiana and the nation to grow bumper crops of corn and soybeans for the second consecutive year, adding to already adequate supplies but further holding down prices farmers will get for their productivity.

Boilermaker softball fans will have plenty of chances to see the team in action this fall as head coach Kim Schuette announced an 11-game slate on Tuesday (Aug. 12).
