Final provost candidate presentation set for today

The third of three finalists for the position of Purdue provost will make a public presentation at 9:30 a.m. today (April 21) in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. The finalist is Dr. Cato T. Laurencin, CEO of the Connecticut institute for Clinical and Translational Science, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, professor of materials engineering, professor of biomedical engineering, and the Albert and Wilda Van Dusen Distinguished Endowed Chair Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Connecticut. Security feedback panel to present report, recommendations at April 30 President's Forum

The Purdue community is encouraged to join President Mitch Daniels and the members of the emergency preparedness and security feedback panel for a President's Forum on April 30 in Purdue Memorial Union, South Ballroom. The forum, scheduled for 8-9 a.m., will focus on the final report and recommendations of the panel, which was formed after the Jan. 21 shooting on the West Lafayette campus.

Ethics and Compliance announces 2014 Walk the Talk Award recipients

Today (April 21) six individuals from the University community will be named recipients of the inaugural Walk the Talk Award, presented by the Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance, for their outstanding dedication to the University's Statement of Integrity and Code of Conduct.

Planned power outage at Northwestern garage on Tuesday

A planned power outage will affect the Northwestern Avenue Parking Garage on Tuesday morning (April 22). The power lines that service the parking garage are in need of repair, and pedestrians should be aware that this brief outage has the potential to affect the elevator and lighting within the parking garage.

This week's 'Thumbs Up' recipients

"Thumbs Up" gives faculty and staff the chance to recognize others on campus for a job well done.

Short jaunt to Noblesville becomes long journey for Purdue balloon launchers

A radio-fired rocket was supposed to end a quick high-altitude flight near Noblesville, Ind., but an unexpectedly durable balloon led Purdue students on a nine-hour winding odyssey deep into Ohio that ended at the end of a dirt road in remote farm country on Saturday (April 19).

Earth Day activities scheduled for this week

Purdue's West Lafayette campus will feature several Earth Day activities this week, including a volunteer tree planting and a free lecture from Julian Agyeman, a key creator of the "just sustainabilities" movement. Events will begin on Tuesday (April 22), which is Earth Day, and will take place through Friday (April 25).

WBAA to air recording of astronaut alumni public forum

WBAA, public radio from Purdue, will air a recording of the astronaut alumni public forum, "A Conversation with Our Astronauts," at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday (April 22) on AM 920 and www.wbaa.org.

Bronze bust of Purdue's
Nobel laureate Negishi unveiled

Purdue unveiled a sculpture of Nobel laureate and professor Ei-ichi Negishi during a ceremony Friday (April 18) on the south steps of the Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry. The bronze bust was created by sculptor Rita Hadley and her husband, Rick, who also created the "Unfinished Block P" sculpture in Academy Park, north of Stewart Center. The bust will join that of the late Herbert C. Brown, Negishi's mentor and Purdue's first Nobel Prize winner, in permanent display inside the Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry.
