Purdue's food vendors -- including temporary and seasonal ones -- undergo strenuous inspections to ensure that their products and practices are as safe as possible for consumers.
Jennifer Asbury, environmental health technician in Radiological and Environmental Management, conducts all inspections. She inspects food vendors on Purdue's West Lafayette campus, including those at fraternities, sororities and cooperative houses. She also inspects vendors at Purdue Calumet, Purdue North Central and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

President Mitch Daniels speaks at a ceremony Wednesday (March 26) to announce that GE Aviation will break ground this year on a new $100 million jet engine assembly facility in Lafayette. The 225,000-square-foot facility will assemble the new LEAP engine from CFM International, a 50/50 joint company between Snecma (Safran) and GE.

Purdue has a long history of collaboration with GE Aviation and its parent, General Electric Co. GE employs more than 1,200 Purdue alumni, including more than 400 at GE Aviation. Over the past five years, GE has financed more than $2.5 million in research and development projects at Purdue. GE Aviation leadership has met with Purdue officials to explore opportunities that will closely align the University to the new Lafayette facility.
A partnership between ITaP and Mike Baldwin, a Purdue atmospheric scientist, is facilitating some innovative teaching through the integration of high-performance computing in weather modeling and forecasting classes, producing a positive forecast for the future careers of Baldwin's students.
Anant Agarwal, founder and president of edX, an education innovation and research company that specializes in open-source education solutions, presented a lecture titled "Reinventing Education" on Wednesday (March 26) as part of the Presidential Lecture Series. The lecture provided an overview of edX's growth in less than two years and how MOOC technologies are being incorporated into on-campus courses to improve learning outcomes and where MOOC technologies are headed. The presentation also provided some recent research results that suggest ways to improve education online and on campus, and Agarwal discussed how MOOCs might evolve in the future to continue to bring innovation to education both on campus and beyond.

The Big Ten Conference on Wednesday (March 26) recognized a total of 676 winter sports student-athletes, naming them to the 2014 winter Academic All-Big Ten team. The Boilermakers earned 42 spots on the list, including 30 members of the Purdue men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
This weekend's scheduled Big Ten road series with Michigan State has been moved to the Boilermaker Softball Complex in West Lafayette due to field conditions and weather in East Lansing.
