Sixty-eight Purdue professors were honored Monday
(Dec. 2) when they were inducted into the Book of Great Teachers, which
honors outstanding teaching faculty who have demonstrated sustained
excellence in the classroom. Held every five years, the induction
now has entered 384 persons into the book, dating from 1999. Their names
are listed on a bronze-and-walnut wall display in the west foyer of
Purdue Memorial Union.
Faculty and staff news
All-campus holiday reception set for
today Purdue faculty and staff are invited to join President
Mitch Daniels for an all-campus holiday open house and reception today
(Dec. 3) in the North Ballroom of Purdue Memorial Union. The event will
be held 4:30-5:30 p.m. Those who would like to attend are welcome to
drop in at any time during that hour.
The Associate Vice
President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Search Committee
is hosting forums in December for three candidates for the position.
Candidates will present on their choice of a student affairs-related
topic.
A planned power outage
will affect the Northwestern Avenue Parking Garage on Wednesday
evening and early Thursday morning (Dec. 4-5). The power lines
temporarily relocated for the Purdue Research Foundation's Wang Hall
project are being restored to their permanent location.
Two
public open houses are set for today (Dec. 3) to gather input for the
State Street Master Plan. The open houses are being held by the city
of West Lafayette, Purdue, Purdue Research Foundation and urban
planning firm MKSK.
Faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in Purdue's
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 20.
By incorporating Kaltura into her
courses on American Sign Language, continuing lecturer Robin Shay is
giving students the individual attention they need to improve while
increasing opportunities to learn and practice sign skills outside of
class.
Purdue Today schedule for semester break
Purdue Today will reduce its publishing schedule during semester
break. It will be published daily through Friday (Dec. 6), and then Dec.
9, 12 and 16. In the new year, Purdue Today will publish Jan. 6 and 9
before returning to the daily schedule on Jan. 13.

Amphibians in species-poor wetlands have a higher risk of becoming
infected with a virulent parasite than those in wetlands with a rich
diversity of species, according to a Purdue finding that sheds light on
how biodiversity moderates the transmission of infectious diseases.
General news
Purdue's
Honors College has joined the Clinton Global Initiative University
Network, a consortium of colleges and universities that support,
mentor and provide seed funding to student leaders, innovators and
entrepreneurs who are developing solutions to some of the world's
most pressing challenges.
Workers pull the
30-foot-tall Christmas tree into Purdue Memorial Union's Great Hall on
Monday (Dec. 2). The Purdue Student Union Board will hold the tree
lighting at 11:30 a.m. today (Dec. 3). President Mitch Daniels will
speak briefly at the event. The 16th annual Holidays Around the
World, also arranged by PSUB, will be from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 4)
in the Union's North Ballroom. Several student organizations will
feature performances and displays of their cultures and different
holidays. Food items will be available to sample.
The Boiler Volunteer Network's annual Season of Sharing gift drive
will be collecting donations through Dec. 12.
Purdue officials announced Monday (Dec. 2) that the Beta Sigma Psi
fraternity has been placed on probation.

The No. 20 Purdue volleyball team earned an at-large bid to the 2013
NCAA Tournament and will play Central Arkansas at 5:30 p.m. ET Friday
