Purdue football to close home schedule with Illinois game

Purdue football will complete its home schedule on Saturday (Nov. 23) when the team takes on Illinois at noon at Ross-Ade Stadium. The game is also Senior Day, when the Boilermakers will honor the 21 seniors on the roster.

Faculty and staff can take advantage of two ticket discounts being offered to Purdue employees: the annual CSSAC-Athletics discount ($20 seats in the north end zone sections) and an Athletics promotion ($25 seats in the Touchdown category). The discounted tickets for employees are available at the Purdue Athletics Ticket Office or by calling the office at 49-43194.

Get into the spirit before the game

* Boiler Bridge Walk: Meet and greet the Boilermaker football team at the Boiler Bridge Walk, which starts at 5:40 p.m. Friday (Nov. 22) at the fountain on the West Lafayette side of the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge.

* Boilermaker Crossing: Purdue fans can meet the team, play on inflatable games, get prizes, pick up posters, enjoy live music and more at the family-friendly Boilermaker Crossing starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sally and Bob Weist Plaza between Mackey Arena and the Brees Academic Center. The event is free.

* 211° Session: Saturday's 211° Session pep rally will feature the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band, football head coach Darrell Hazell and the Boilermaker football players. The event starts at 9:49 a.m. in Mackey Arena.

Simplified desk-side waste disposal process to begin Dec. 1

In response to numerous and repeated requests for change, Physical Facilities is announcing a simplified desk-side waste collection process for academic and administrative buildings on the West Lafayette campus.

Global conference on infrastructure, disasters planned; abstracts invited

A team of Purdue professors will host an international conference on infrastructure and disasters in May, and abstracts are being invited now with a due date of Jan. 10.

Exterior building inspections to use binoculars Monday-Wednesday

Contractors who will be on campus between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday (Nov. 25-27) will be using binoculars to observe recent masonry work on Duhme Residence Hall, Wood Residence Hall and Cary Quadrangle.

Purdue Today schedule for Thanksgiving break

Purdue Today will reduce its publishing schedule during the week of the Thanksgiving holiday. It will be published Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 25-26) and then will resume daily publication on Dec. 2.

Purdue alumnus C.N.R. Rao wins India's highest civilian honor

Purdue alumnus and international policy leader Chintamani Nagesa Ramachandra (C.N.R.) Rao was named a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, on Saturday (Nov. 16).

Ellis plaque

Plaque honors Golden Gate bridge designer

Paul Giroux (left) a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, presents a commemorative plaque to Fred Apsey, a 1941 civil engineering alumnus, and Mark Bowman, professor of civil engineering, during a luncheon Thursday (Nov. 21) in Purdue Memorial Union. The plaque is a replica of one that was installed in May 2012 at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco in honor of Charles A. Ellis, the late Purdue alumnus and professor who designed the bridge. Until recently, Ellis had not received credit for his pivotal role in the project. The replica plaque will be installed in Hampton Hall of Civil Engineering.

At the luncheon, Apsey, who was one of Ellis' students, also announced a $250,000 gift to the School of Civil Engineering in honor of Ellis. The gift will fund civil engineering scholarships.

Indianapolis middle school students to visit campus, learn about STEM careers

Two hundred eighth-grade students from Indianapolis will visit Purdue's West Lafayette campus today (Nov. 22) as part of a collaborative effort to boost underrepresented children's interest in science, technology, engineering and math-related fields.

Purdue and InnerVision Advanced Medical Imaging bring advanced PET/CT scanning technology to area

Purdue is collaborating with InnerVision Advanced Medical Imaging to install a GE Healthcare PET/CT system at its facility for research and patient care.

Whitford pens third Purdue agricultural history book

Fred Whitford, Purdue Extension specialist and coordinator of Purdue pesticide programs in the College of Agriculture, has penned his third agricultural history book, "For the Good of the Farmer," recently launched through Purdue University Press.

Hurt: Expanding livestock production could add value to corn

An expanding livestock production sector could add value to corn in coming months -- and that's welcome news for growers who saw corn and soybean prices fall in the wake of an EPA-proposed decrease in the Renewable Fuel Standard for 2014, Purdue Extension agricultural economist Chris Hurt says.
