University to initiate project to assess staff work environment

Human Resources has partnered with two Purdue faculty members to launch a long-term initiative with the goal of understanding and improving the quality of the work environment for staff. Feedback and participation from staff will be crucial to the success and impact of this project.

Employees opted out of Purdue medical coverage must opt out again for 2014

Employees who have opted out of Purdue medical coverage for 2013 and want to opt out again in 2014 must indicate this through EBenefits by 6 p.m. (ET) Friday (Nov. 15). Those who do not will be enrolled automatically in the Purdue Health Plan Plus HSA 2, but they will not have a health savings account through the University, and they will not get an HSA contribution from Purdue.

Events for final two days of benefits enrollment period

The following events are scheduled for today (Nov. 14) and Friday (Nov. 15):

  • Today's walk-in labs: 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.in Matthews Hall, Room 301, and 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. in Freehafer Hall, Room 1-5.
  • Today's "2014 Benefits Enrollment" presentation: 2-3 p.m. in Lawson Computer Science Building, Room B155.
  • Friday's walk-in lab: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. in Freehafer Hall, Room 1-5.
Visit www.purdue.edu/benefits/enroll.html for a schedule of live sessions and additional help. Open enrollment ends at 6 p.m. (ET) Friday (Nov. 15).

A month in, procurement change to Ariba P2P looking good

Success on all fronts has marked the early weeks of the Ariba Procure to Pay (P2P) system, which launched Oct. 14 at Purdue, officials say. P2P is a key element of the University's three-year transformation of procurement processes.

Professor adopts technology tools to increase students' active learning opportunities

By using the right instructional technologies, distinguished professor Robert Herrick raises the level of student engagement in his freshman-level electrical engineering technology course. In collaboration with Purdue's IMPACT program, Herrick is working to increase active learning opportunities for his students.

Daniels promotes Purdue at APLU annual meeting in Washington

President Mitch Daniels earlier this week was a featured speaker at the opening session of the 126th Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Annual Meeting. Daniels touted Purdue, speaking before more than a thousand higher education leaders.

An international award for leadership and innovation in information technology was presented recently to Gerry McCartney, Purdue CIO, vice president for information technology and the Olga Oesterle England Professor of Information Technology.

Visitor parking permits available online

Visitors to Purdue now can purchase visitor "A" parking permits for $5 per day from the Parking Facilities website.

Purdue places fraternity on extended probation

Purdue officials announced Wednesday (Nov. 13) that the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity has been placed on probation through May 15, 2017.

Purdue professor collaborating with Denver museum for taste study

Richard Mattes, Distinguished Professor of Nutrition Science, is partnering with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science on a study to learn about the taste of fat and the possibility there are more than the five known tastes of sweet, sour, salty, umami (savory), and bitter.

JPUR opens doors for undergraduate researchers

Seventy undergraduate authors have seen their research published in the 2013 edition of the Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research (JPUR) in article or snapshot format. The journal showcases the best undergraduate research at Purdue and highlights the student as the author.
