Purdue University Galleries this month will open two new exhibits -- one an examination of scary art and the other a selection of artwork from its own collection, selected and commented on by community members. "BFSD (Big Fat Scary Deal)" will be presented Oct. 21-Dec. 7 in the Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Stewart Center, and "INTRO" will be presented Oct. 22-Dec. 7 in the new Fountain Gallery in downtown Lafayette.

Course nominations for meeting the foundational outcomes of the undergraduate outcomes-based core curriculum are again open.
The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence is now taking applications for its Spring 2014 Faculty Scholar Program. The award will support one Purdue tenure-track faculty member to plan for and carry out research on a topic that will further the mission and goals of the center. Applications are due Oct. 21. Details are available in a PDF file.
The offices of the Center for Instructional Excellence have moved to the Hall for Discovery and Learning Research (DLR).

The increasing production of shale oil and gas should benefit the U.S. economy by raising the nation's gross domestic product by an average of 3.5 percent annually through 2035, according to a report by Purdue energy economists.

GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt and President Mitch Daniels sat down Thursday (Oct. 3) to talk about how the company and the University can work together on global problems. The talk, titled "Meeting Our Challenges: A Conversation," can be viewed here.

The Purdue men's basketball team has announced its promotion schedule for all 19 home games to be played in Mackey Arena for the 2013-14 season.

The show will feature a pair of Purdue football-related segments, one a behind-the-scenes look at a day inside the Boilermaker program and the second a game day feature during Purdue's Sept. 21 visit to Wisconsin.
