Purdue students improving water quality in rural Colombia

Purdue students are improving the quality of drinking water for rural Colombians through the University's Global Engineering Program in a project sponsored by Kimberly-Clark Corp. The company operates paper production facilities in South America, including a plant near Barbosa, Colombia. Company officials wanted to improve water quality for area residents, many of whom are employees, says Chad Jafvert, professor of civil engineering. Read more...

Students study tourism management, economics at Purdue’s Oman Tourism Program

Oman Tourism Program Suaad Al Dhahouri (from left) and Asmaa Al Hashmi, students from the Sultanate of Oman College of Applied Sciences, dine with Purdue students Moriah Hendrix and Maria Welchez at a welcome dinner for participants in Purdue’s Oman Tourism Program. Five students, accompanied by instructor Hafidh Al Riyami, are on campus from June 12 to July 8 to participate in the program coordinated by the College of Health and Human Sciences' Office of International Programs and School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Now in its second year, the Oman Tourism Program includes an intensive program of study in tourism management and economics at the undergraduate level as well as trips to Chicago and Indianapolis to observe those cities’ infrastructure, capital investments, political and environmental development, and tourist attractions.

The program is led by Joe Ismail, associate professor of hospitality and tourism management, and Jonathon Day, assistant professor of hospitality and tourism management, in collaboration with the Oman and Dubai Winter Study Abroad Program offered to Purdue students in HTM and in the Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing.
