IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Apollo 11 anniversary

On July 20, 1969, Purdue alumnus Neil Armstrong took his famous "small step" into history as the first human to set foot on the moon. As the 40th anniversary approaches, Purdue Today will highlight Purdue research aimed at future lunar missions, share faculty and staff memories of the lunar landing, and provide details about how the University is marking the anniversary.

Mementos, artifacts and personal papers from Neil Armstrong, Eugene Cernan and other Purdue astronaut alumni will be on display July 20 to Oct. 30 as the University celebrates its rich space heritage and the 40th anniversary of the historic first walk on the moon. Purdue Libraries' Archives and Special Collections will present the exhibit "Purdue's Place in Space: From the Midwest to the Moon." The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be on display in the new Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center on the fourth floor of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education Library in Stewart Center. Research focuses on fuel injection in rockets

Research guided by Steven Collicott and Steve Heister, professors of aeronautical and astronautical engineering, in the Aerospace Two-Phase Flow Laboratory in Neil Armstrong Hall is focused on how fuel injection responds to large pressure fluctuations in the combustion chamber of rockets. More

Event on Purdue Mall to mark occasion

France A. Córdova will mark her second anniversary as president of Purdue with a gathering today (July 16) on Purdue Mall. Purdue faculty, staff and students are invited for lemonade, cookies and a chance to chat with Córdova from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the mall, which is located in front of Hovde Hall.

Veterinary school celebrates 50 years with service project in Ethiopia

Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine celebrated its 50th anniversary by sending 19 faculty members, students and alumni to Ethiopia to help production animal proficiency and facilitate ongoing relationships with the Ethiopian veterinary school. The group spent several days working with Project Mercy, a U.S.-based nonprofit relief and development agency that seeks to improve both cattle and human nutrition through breeding practices. More

Purdue men's basketball head coach Matt Painter added a gold medal to his trophy case as the United States men's U19 World Championship team won the FIBA U19 World Championship. Painter was an assistant coach for the team. More
