Search committee to find candidates for next dean of education

A search committee has been formed to identify candidates for the dean's position in the College of Education. Dennis Depew, dean of the College of Technology, is chairing the committee.The committee will search for a successor to George Hynd, who has been named senior vice provost for education and innovation, dean of the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education and Foundation Professor at Arizona State University. Purdue receives $1 million for exhibit in Neil Armstrong Hall

Purdue has been awarded a $1 million grant from the John Deere Foundation to create The Exhibitry of the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering. The exhibit will be located near the staircase and atrium on the first floor of the new hall. The interactive, 2,000-square-foot exhibit is expected to be unveiled in the fall of 2008. More

Professor: Misperception of media bias causes problems for democracy

The perception of mainstream news media bias may play a role in fewer Americans having an active interest and concern about politics, says a Purdue political sociologist.

"If people hear over and over again that the media are biased, then they will begin to believe that," says Philo Wasburn, a professor of sociology who studies bias in the media. More

Author, inspirational speaker to visit Purdue

Joan Brock
An author and inspirational speaker who overcame a number of personal challenges will speak Oct. 4 at Purdue .

Joan Brock, who lost her sight from a rare eye disease at the age of 32, will talk at 7 p.m. in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. Sponsored by the Beta Iota Chapter of Delta Gamma sorority and the Purdue Panhellenic Association, the event is free and open to the public. More

Calder Quartet to blend traditional, avant-garde for Purdue show

The Los Angeles-based ensemble the Calder Quartet will explore the historical reverberations of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 15 in A Minor, op. 132, at 8 p.m. Oct. 12 in Loeb Playhouse. More

He will speak as part of the 2007 Darden Series, sponsored by the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

— Sept. 27. 7:30 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center.  Tom Curley, president and CEO of the Associated Press, will discuss how the news business has changed in recent years and how other organizations can cope with similar changes. The talk, "The Upside of Change Management," is sponsored by the Purdue Association of Leaders and the Department of Organizational Leadership and Supervision.

With gifts totaling more than $1.25 million over the past year to help Purdue student-athletes, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has named its endowed scholarship program in honor of Dick and Jeanne Groben of Sarasota, Fla. The program now is known as the Groben Society. More

Purdue's eStadium is believed to be the first service to offer access to instant replays on cell phones, as well as other features that will make the game-day experience more interactive for fans in the stands. The service is available at no charge to those attending football games at Purdue's Ross-Ade Stadium. More
