The Teaching Academy at Purdue University

The Teaching Academy at Purdue strives to bring together the best teaching faculty across campus to create a collective voice for teaching and learning on campus. Faculty are nominated and selected by their peers to join this diverse group of faculty. Faculty in the Teaching Academy contribute in a variety of ways, but even with the myriad activities their primary focus is to increase the effectiveness of all of the faculty at Purdue University.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Teaching Academy is to provide leadership and serve as a catalyst to enhance and strengthen the quality of undergraduate, graduate, and outreach teaching and learning.

Bringing together outstanding scholar-teachers from across the curriculum, the Teaching Academy provides all interested faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to talk, learn, and work together on important and meaningful educational initiatives. The Teaching Academy sponsors programs and activities fostering educational creativity, innovation, and effectiveness both in and outside the classroom.

The Academy is comprised of a dedicated and dynamic network of scholar-teachers committed to the continual improvement of teaching and learning at Purdue University. Under the auspices of the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Teaching Academy works with the academic schools, the Center for Instructional Excellence, and others to enrich the educational experiences of the entire Purdue University community.

Nominating Members to the Teaching Academy

Membership in the Teaching Academy recognizes outstanding and scholarly teaching in the graduate, undergraduate, or engagement programs of Purdue University. Members of the Teaching Academy help promote the scholarship of teaching and learning, and share their expertise across campus with their colleagues. Each spring individuals with a passion and commitment to teaching who have been recognized as outstanding teachers by their students and peers are encouraged to be nominated by their Dean for consideration to be inducted into the Teaching Academy. 

Nominations are submitted electronically to by the Deans of the respective Schools and Colleges for forwarding to the Teaching Academy Executive Council.

The deadline for nominations is 5:00 PM of last Friday in January.
