English, School of Interdisciplinary Studies, College of Liberal Arts

Dr. Angelica Duran, Professor of English, School of Interdisciplinary Studies in the College of Liberal Arts, has more than 20 years of experience. She specializes in British literature and teaches as a guest instructor at world-renowned universities for her expertise in John Milton’s work. Within the English department, Duran teaches topics from world literature, the Bible as literature, and Renaissance works, as well as contributes to other courses inside and outside of her department.

Duran prides herself in results-based education. She applies evidence-based instructional strategies from educational seminars and research in the classroom. For example creating the archival-research based maps Purdue Space Walks and creating teaching units as final projects.

She values collaborative, multimodal, and multimedia learning experiences to connect topics to the real world, and assigns projects that take English beyond pen and paper, but to painting, poetry, essays, and more. For example, submitting four creative projects for the Purdue Libraries COVID Stories. She utilizes constructive feedback with her students in individual student meetings throughout the semester so they can get the most out of their educational experiences. Among the first assignments of the course is a 30-minute individual office hour with each student to go over their early draft of a resume.

Duran’s teaching objectives extend beyond the syllabus and encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving that lead to impressive outcomes in securing many English Literary Award prizes from Purdue.
