2019 All-America Selections Design Challenge Winners Announced – Extension Master Gardener Program

2019 All-America Selections Design Challenge Winners Announced

Once again several of our Purdue Extension Master Gardener (EMG) volunteer gardens placed in their respective categories.  Our talented EMG volunteers integrated the 2019 theme “Re-Use, Recycle, Re-Imagine” into their garden designs while featuring AAS Winner varieties.

In Category 1 (0-10,000 visitors), the Master Gardener Association of Tippecanoe County won first place for having the most all-encompassing use of this year’s theme.  They upcycled items destined for the landfill as props and holders for the AAS Winner plants and reused plants from their 2018 garden.  The garden displayed money-saving gardening solutions by using plastic milk jugs, nesting boxes, and old satellite dishes.  Produce from the garden were donated to the local Salvation Army to help alleviate food insecurity. First place in Category 2 (10,000-100,000 visitors) went to Purdue Extension Marion County Demonstration Garden. They submitted a drone video to AAS showcasing their garden.  They held several community outreach programs that not only highlighted the AAS varieties but also the ways the attendees can reduce, reuse, recycle and reimagine their own gardens.
