On September 6, 2025, a major fire occurred at PBTT Corp. in Newburgh, Indiana.  The fire involved several different chemical compounds, resulting in heavy smoke and ash that caused a shelter-in-place order for residents.

Many have questions and concerns about human, animal, and environmental safety in the aftermath of this fire.

INPREPared will use this site to provide educational resources useful to the community.  The site will be updated as verified resources become available.

Please note: Resources and fact sheets included on this page may not directly relate to the Newburgh fire situation. They are provided for reference purposes, but be aware that there can be significant differences, as well as similarities, in the effects of industrial fires and woodland wildfires.

Current Information

The EPA Joint Information Center site provides regular updates on the Newburgh fire response and mitigation efforts.  This site compiles testing data, advisories, and recommendations from EPA, IDEM, and other responding agencies.  The most current, verified information about health, safety, and environmental concerns will be found here!
