Purdue United Way Board Fellows: Strengthening Boards, Developing Leaders, and Advancing Community Impact

The Purdue United Way Board Fellows Program connects local nonprofit organizations with talented Purdue students who are ready to make a meaningful impact. Through this yearlong fellowship, students serve as non-voting members of nonprofit boards, contributing fresh perspectives, thoughtful insights, and strategic ideas while gaining invaluable leadership experience.

These partnerships support agencies aligned with the United Way of Greater Lafayette while providing students with hands-on exposure to board governance, community engagement, and nonprofit leadership. The program strengthens nonprofit organizations while preparing the next generation of civic and community leaders.

Launched in Fall 2025, the program is a collaboration between Purdue University’s Office of Engagement, the Mitch Daniels School of Business and beyond. Together, they recruit, prepare, and support students throughout the fellowship while helping nonprofit organizations build stronger, more connected boards.

As the program continues to grow, the Office of Engagement is exploring opportunities to expand participation across additional colleges and academic units at Purdue. By engaging students from a variety of disciplines, the program will bring broader perspectives and expertise to nonprofit boards, enrich student learning through real-world leadership experiences, and further strengthen Purdue’s commitment to meaningful community engagement.
