Purdue United Way Board Fellows: Strengthening Boards, Developing Leaders, and Advancing Community Impact

The Purdue United Way Board Fellows Program connects local nonprofit organizations with talented Purdue students who are eager to make a difference. Through this yearlong fellowship, students serve as non-voting members on nonprofit boards – bringing fresh ideas, thoughtful analysis, and strategic recommendations to the table.

These partnerships support agencies aligned with the United Way of Greater Lafayette and offer students a powerful hands-on learning experience in board governance, social impact, and nonprofit leadership. It’s a meaningful way to build capacity while investing in the next generation of community leaders.

Launched in Fall 2025, this program brings together the Office of Engagement and the Mitch Daniels School of Business to recruit and prepare students for the fellowship while strengthening nonprofit boards and building meaningful community connections.

Growing Leadership. Building Connections. Driving Change.

Are you ready to take your leadership skills to the next level while making a real impact in our community? The Purdue United Way Board Fellows Program places Purdue students on the boards of local nonprofit organizations as nonvoting members for one year (January–December). You’ll sit alongside experienced community leaders, see how organizations work behind the scenes, and contribute to discussions and projects that change lives.

No prior nonprofit experience is required – just a willingness to learn and a passion for making a difference. As a fellow, you’ll gain hands-on leadership experience, build your professional network, and learn about board governance, strategic decision-making, and the important role nonprofits play in our community. These experiences not only strengthen your résumé or grad school application but also provide you with the opportunity to contribute to positive changes in our community.
