BoilerKey Two-Factor Authentication

Purdue BoilerKey: Glossary

Two-Factor Authentication: An extra layer of security, also known as "multi-factor authentication," that requires your login, requires a type of password or PIN, and something that can only be accessed by the user, such as a smartphone or physical token.
BoilerKey: The name of the Purdue University Two-Factor Authentication service.
Duo Mobile: The smartphone application required for BoilerKey.
Physical (Hard) Token: A small device that generates 6-digit randomized numbers.
BoilerKey PIN: A 4-digit PIN that is created by you. It is then used in place of the Career Account password for Purdue services that are BoilerKey-enabled.
Passcode: A 6-digit randomized number provided by either the Duo Mobile app or physical token.
Bypass Code: A 9-digit temporary one-time password that can be used in lieu of BoilerKey for short-term access. It can only be provided by the ITaP Customer Service Center or your academic IT area.
Push: The word "push" can be used after the 4-digit PIN and comma, to have a Duo notification sent to your Duo Mobile app on your smartphone. This can be used instead of the Token Code.
Passphrase: For BoilerKey-enabled services, this will be either "4-digit PIN,push" or "4-digit PIN,6-digit token code". You will find examples during the sign-up process.
