Critically acclaimed author of 'Algorithms of Oppression' to speak on campus

Does racism and sexism exist on internet search engines? Is there an equal playing field? Safiya Noble, author of "Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism," today (Oct. 3) will deliver the inaugural lecture in Purdue University Libraries' Critical Data Studies Distinguished Lecture Series. Noble's lecture is aligned with Purdue's Giant Leaps Sesquicentennial Campaign and is part of the Ideas Festival.

On July 20, 1969, Purdue alumnus Neil Armstrong became the first person to step onto the moon’s surface. Armstrong’s moon landing and his legacy have inspired the name of Purdue’s sesquicentennial campaign, Giant Leaps, as well as the upcoming biopic, "First Man," launching on Oct. 12.
