Phishing scam with dangerous attachment commandeers Purdue email addresses

A wave of emails from legitimate purdue.edu email addresses to other individuals at Purdue -- and including a .zip attachment file -- is a "phishing" scam designed to pass on the infected file. People receiving these emails, which include the subject line "Your document," should not open them and especially should not open the .zip attachment.

Professor takes closer look at financial life of those in impoverished households

Some families in the world's poorest countries may spend half of their yearly income on a funeral for a loved one. Those families struggle to develop plans to meet these expenses, particularly since they have limited access to loans and other financial services. But thanks to research by Jonathan Bauchet, assistant professor of consumer science, families in that situation may now be better able to manage their financial needs and make the best of limited resources.
