Visitors to Spring Fest had the opportunity to learn about insects, other animals, plants, art and much more at activities this weekend throughout the West Lafayette campus. The weekend also included a reunion of Purdue's NASA astronaut alumni.

Faculty and staff news
One of the three finalists for the position of Purdue provost will make a public presentation at 9:30 a.m. today (April 14) in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. The finalist is Christine M. Maziar, vice president and senior associate provost and professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Notre Dame. Purdue is located in a region of the United States that is susceptible to dangerous weather events such as severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. Carol Shelby, senior director of environmental health and public safety, describes procedures for severe weather in this memo.
Designers on Purdue's West Lafayette campus now have access to a new central font server that provides more than 2,400 typefaces for printed and online materials, makes fonts more accessible to campus users and saves the University money.
APSAC seeking feedback through online survey The Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee is asking A/P staff to fill out a short online survey intended to gauge the group's effectiveness in communicating with constituents and meeting constituents' needs. The student team from the Purdue Society of Professional Engineers is once again national champion after winning the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest on Saturday (April 12) in Columbus, Ohio.
Purdue's Golden Taps ceremony will be held on Tuesday (April 15) to honor students who died during the past academic year. Golden Taps, a collaboration of the Office of the Dean of Students, University Residences and the Purdue Student Union Board, has been a tradition on campus since 1994.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's April 9 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates continued a series of recent reports that have offered corn and soybean producers a more optimistic grain-price outlook than what was expected for most of the winter, Purdue Extension agricultural economist Chris Hurt says.
People
Purdue School of Nursing concluded the yearlong celebration of its 50th anniversary by recognizing 50 "Golden Graduates" on Saturday (April 12). The Golden Graduate designation was presented to Nursing graduates who have exemplified a tradition of excellence that characterizes the School of Nursing and have demonstrated outstanding achievement in nursing practice, teaching, research or service.
The week of April 14-18 is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Purdue is taking this opportunity to recognize the work of its police dispatchers.
