Did You Know?: Engineering Administration Building
and retired Heating and Power Plant-North

In the fall, the Engineering Administration Building (left) and the retired Heating and Power Plant-North (right) -- two campus buildings that have been instrumental in the history of Purdue -- will no longer appear on campus maps. The buildings will be torn down at the end of this academic year to make way for the Active Learning Center.

To limit data exposed by Heartbleed Web bug, individuals should change Purdue, other passwords

If you use popular websites such as Gmail and Facebook, an encryption flaw called the Heartbleed bug may have exposed your sensitive account information -- including passwords and credit card numbers. As ITaP monitors Purdue systems for vulnerabilities, administrators encourage faculty, staff and students to change their passwords on all social, email, banking and commerce websites, as well as their Purdue passwords.

Police memo points out crime-reporting obligation under Clery Act

The Purdue University Police Department is reminding faculty and staff about the University's obligations regarding the reporting of crime statistics and the responsibilities of those on campus who qualify as a campus security authority (CSA) under federal law. Chief John Cox reissued a memo today (April 11) about crime statistics and related reporting obligations to those identified on campus as CSAs.

Online tobacco cessation programs now available through Center for Healthy Living

The Center for Healthy Living has added two online tobacco cessation programs to its Web portal. The programs are available to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff system-wide. Spouses and same-sex domestic partners covered on a Purdue medical plan are also eligible for the programs.

CHS to merge with another worksite health center company

CHS Health Services, the company that runs the Center for Healthy Living for Purdue, has announced that Water Street Healthcare Partners, a health care industry investor, has signed agreements to become the majority investor in both CHS and Take Care Employer Solutions. Take Care is a Walgreens subsidiary that manages hundreds of worksite health care centers nationwide.

Purdue study to measure gravity's effects on plant cells in space

A Purdue experiment that will test how plant cells sense and respond to different levels of gravity is scheduled to launch aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Fla., on Monday (April 14).

Purdue's Discovery Park to host Indiana CTSI research retreat

Panel discussions and presentations are planned at a meeting this month for the second phase of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), a partnership among Purdue, Indiana University and the University of Notre Dame.

Grant to support interdisciplinary collaborations aimed at tackling 'grand challenges'

Purdue University Libraries and Press, the College of Liberal Arts, the Global Policy Research Institute and Discovery Park have received a $539,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support collaborations of humanists, social scientists and STEM faculty in addressing large-scale public policy problems. Faculty proposals are being sought as part of the project, and an informational workshop will be held May 1.

Alumni astronaut Cernan donates mapbook from Apollo 17 lunar mission

Eugene Cernan, the most recent person to walk on the moon, was recognized Thursday evening (April 10) during an invitation-only reception at Purdue's Mackey Arena for donating an Apollo 17 Lunar Roving Vehicle mapbook to the University.

* Cernan will be one of seven Purdue NASA astronaut alumni who will discuss their experiences in space and their thoughts on the future of human space flight at a public forum at 7 p.m. Saturday (April 12) in Elliott Hall of Music. The forum is free, but tickets are required.

Colombian university, Purdue technology transfer office partner on commercialization processes, activities

A partnership between Purdue Research Foundation and Universidad de Caldas in Manizales, Caldas, Colombia brought two Colombian university officials to Purdue's Office of Technology Commercialization as part of a 10-month project to increase commercialization activities for both entities.

College of Science program promotes global partnerships

For dozens of international and domestic students in the College of Science, living, eating and hanging out together is as educational as it is fun thanks to the Global Science Partners program.
