Nick Crosby

PUPD bicycle patrol tackles parking, traffic and more on game day

It's four hours before kickoff on the day of a home football game for the Boilermakers, and Officer Nick Crosby is at the Purdue police department receiving final instructions before he heads out as part of the department's bicycle patrol. Crosby, a Purdue graduate and member of the police department for the past six years, is one of the University's two full-time bicycle and foot patrol officers. On game days, the bicycle patrol helps fans, assists with traffic control and watches over game-day activities to ensure they go smoothly.

Get into the spirit before the game

* Boiler Bridge Walk: Meet and greet the Boilermaker football team at the Boiler Bridge Walk, which starts at 5:40 p.m. today (Nov. 1) at the fountain on the West Lafayette side of the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge.

* Boilermaker Crossing: Purdue fans can meet the team, play on inflatable games, get prizes, pick up posters, enjoy live music and more at the family-friendly Boilermaker Crossing starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sally and Bob Weist Plaza between Mackey Arena and the Brees Academic Center. The event is free.

* 211° Session: Saturday's 211° Session pep rally will feature the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band, football head coach Darrell Hazell and the Boilermaker football players. The event starts at 9:49 a.m. in Mackey Arena.

President's Forum on Thursday to highlight engineering, computer science initiatives

The Purdue community is invited to join President Mitch Daniels for a President's Forum from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 7) in Purdue Memorial Union, South Ballroom. The forum will feature Daniels along with panelists who are leading Purdue Moves initiatives to expand the College of Engineering and strengthen computer science.

Today's benefit enrollment events

Today (Nov. 1), a walk-in lab will be held at 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in Freehafer Hall, Room 1-5. For a schedule of live sessions and additional help during benefits open enrollment, visit www.purdue.edu/benefits/enroll.html. Open enrollment ends at 6 p.m. (ET) Nov. 15.

University policy update

The Executive Policy Review Group (EPRG) took action on several system-wide policies at its October meeting.

Sessions on Web conferencing tools, wikis, mobile tech and screen sharing set for November

Faculty and staff interested in learning about a variety of Web conferencing applications are encouraged to register to attend the next Purdue Adobe Connect Users Group (PACUG) meeting set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 6). PACUG is one of three group meetings ITaP will hold in November to support faculty and staff looking for new ideas and updates on popular instructional technologies, including wikis and mobile and screen sharing technology.

Garage construction to disrupt Harrison Street traffic

Westbound traffic on Harrison Street this afternoon (Nov. 1) between South University and Russell streets will be redirected for two hours while a crane is positioned, weather permitting, Physical Facilities has announced. Construction on the Harrison Street Parking Garage involving the crane will require intermittent disruptions of Harrison and its north sidewalk throughout November.

Daylight saving time ends Sunday

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 3), meaning campus clocks will have to "fall back" this weekend.

Purdue's new Herrick Labs building open for business

Purdue on Nov. 8 will unveil a new building and facilities for the expansion of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories, a hub of industry-oriented research in areas ranging from advanced automotive technologies to "smart" buildings.

Purdue Peace Project helps resolve leadership conflict in Berekum, Ghana

After 13 years of conflict over who was chief of a small Western African community, local citizens were able to help peacefully resolve the disagreement with the assistance of a new Purdue peace and research program.
