The Purdue Airport made history upon opening in 1930, becoming the first university-owned and -operated airport in the country. In the late 1920s, David E. Ross, member of the Purdue Board of Trustees, and President Edward C. Elliott conceived the idea of building a training airfield at Purdue.
Faculty and staff news
The Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance is announcing the availability of University-wide Equal Access, Equal Opportunity training sessions. Faculty, staff and graduate students are encouraged to participate in the training sessions in an effort to ensure the campus environment is one free of discrimination and harassment.

President Mitch Daniels' interview on Bloomberg television's "Capitol Gains" will air today, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 20-22). On the show, Daniels will discuss higher education reform, investment in basic science research, and the importance of technology transfer and efforts Purdue has put in place to speed innovations to market.
Purdue's Homecoming 2013 will feature activities for students and the public. Included will be a parade, a pep rally with a new time and day, and family events. Activities kick off Monday (Sept. 23) and conclude with the Homecoming football game against the University of Northern Illinois at noon on Sept. 28.
Purdue has announced the students who will serve on the 2013 Homecoming queen and king court.
Little is said about speech and communication issues for Parkinson's disease patients, but a Purdue expert hopes the new Michael J. Fox TV show will speak up about these topics.
Purdue announced Thursday (Sept. 19) that it is donating funds received from the Big Ten Conference to four local community groups. The donations stem from sanctions by the conference against Penn State handed down following the investigation of child sexual abuse by former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. Revenue Penn State would have earned -- totaling nearly $2.3 million -- was divided in 12 ways among all Big Ten schools, including Penn State.
