University Residences has begun a yearlong pilot program that seeks to help first-year students develop the academic, social and emotional skills necessary to succeed at Purdue. The Residential First-Year Experience (FYE) program is taking place in McCutcheon and Owen residence halls. It is in conjunction with the campus-wide Foundations of Excellence initiative, whose goal is to enhance the experience of all first-year students.

Forums on student intellectual growth will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in Stewart Center, Room 310, and at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 25 in Pfendler Hall, Room 241.
Faculty and staff interested in learning more about executing a successful study abroad program are invited to attend a Study Abroad Workshop on Sept. 24.

Purdue is collaborating with the Joint Shantou International Eye Center to search for new drugs based on traditional Chinese medicines to improve vision and treat retinal degeneration.
Students walking through woods in a classroom project no longer have to leaf through pages in a book to figure out what type of tree they're looking at. They now can have the resource of a Purdue Extension mobile app at their fingertips to easily identify the most common trees of the Midwest.
