Army ROTC sets memorial service for 2001 graduate

Purdue's Army ROTC Boiler Battalion will conduct a memorial service today (Nov. 20) for Capt. Timothy I. McGovern, a 2001 Purdue graduate who died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations in Mosul, Iraq.The ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Purdue Armory. As part of the ceremony, the honor guard from American Legion Post 38 will fire three blank rifle volleys around 5 p.m. near the east doors to the Armory as a memorial to McGovern. More

Students' genomics tool will lead to better medicine

While consumers and pharmacists are well aware that prescription drug interactions can be dangerous, the fact that each person's genetic makeup can render certain drugs dangerous or even deadly is not widely recognized.

Students in the Department of Computer and Information Technology are working to develop an information-management tool that could give pharmacists instant access to patients' genetic profile, making it possible to quickly determine the proper medicine dosage or if the drug cannot be tolerated by the patient. Holiday gift cards to ring up $30 billion in sales, Purdue expert says

For many holiday shoppers, a merry Christmas is in the cards - gift cards. When Christmas shopping begins in earnest the day after Thanksgiving, an estimated $30 billion will be spent on gift cards, a 10 percent increase over last year, says Richard Feinberg, a researcher with Purdue's Retail Institute.More

Holiday tuba music tradition to continue at Purdue

Players of the tuba and other low brass instruments are invited to join the band for the Greater Lafayette TubaChristmas concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 in the lobby of Stewart Center. Purdue Bands and Brent's Bench, a musical instrument repair shop in Lafayette, co-sponsor the annual event, which attracts dozens of community and student brass players. More
