Strategic plan looks toward academic future

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University College of Agriculture's 2009-2014 strategic plan is now available for public viewing on the Web.

The plan, which can be found at https://www.ag.purdue.edu/Pages/strategicplan.aspx, includes the College's vision to prepare students to make a difference, conduct research with purpose that leads to discovery with impact, and to engage in a way that transforms lives and livelihoods.

"This strategic plan is the result of more than a year of effort on the part of Purdue Agriculture faculty, staff and students," said Jay Akridge, Purdue's Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture. "This truly is our college's plan, and the engagement of everyone in Purdue Agriculture is critical to our success."

The plan's six main points include:

* Leadership in the food, agricultural, life and natural resource sciences. Frame issues, solve problems and deliver timely solutions that impact important challenges in Indiana, the nation and the world by developing and encouraging faculty, staff and students to partake in leadership roles on all levels.

* Students prepared for a changing world. Prepare students for global leadership in food, agriculture, life and natural resource sciences through exemplary teaching, mentoring, improved broadening experiences and enhanced partnership with public and private organizations.

* Research addressing our most pressing social and scientific issues. Foster a culture of scholarship across the College of Agriculture that enables growth of high-impact research addressing society's most important challenges.

* Extension that is engaged, connected and impactive. Engage people in transformational learning experiences resulting in demonstrated impact that enhances their lives and/or livelihoods.

* Preschool to post-high school students interested and prepared for agricultural sciences. Expand the pool of students interested in, and prepared for, careers in food, agricultural, life and natural resource sciences.

* Our College: Who we are and how we work. Promote a community and climate within Purdue Agriculture where diverse and unique contributions, talents and skills of faculty, staff and students are acknowledged, valued, respected and rewarded; where service for the good of the college is valued; and excellence in each of our mission areas and their integration is pursued.
