November 2, 2009 CERIAS to offer master's level assistantship with Lockheed Martin's helpWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security will offer five master's assistantships thanks to support from Lockheed Martin.The program is open to first-year master's degree students at Purdue who have an interest in studying in an information assurance-related field and are U.S. citizens at the time of application. Those chosen will receive remission of graduate student fees, graduate student health insurance and benefits, an $897 stipend each month, a paid 10-week internship with Lockheed Martin in summer 2010 and the opportunity to conduct research with a CERIAS-affiliated faculty member for 10 hours a week. Those selected also could begin the program this semester and work through the end of the academic year, with an opportunity to extend the assistantship for a second year. Applicants must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. Those wishing to participate must apply by 5 p.m. Monday (Nov. 9). Applicants are asked to submit a resume, copies of their academic transcripts from all post-secondary education completed and a personal statement of 1,000 words or less of career aspirations. These must be turned in to the CERIAS offices in Recitation Building, Room 217. Applicants are encouraged to articulate the practical value of their proposed research area(s) in the statements. In addition, three letters of recommendation from professors who are able to evaluate the applicant's scientific aptitude also must be turned in by Nov. 20.
