October 1, 2009 Purdue librarian pens book on military doctrineWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A book written by Purdue University librarian Bert Chapman on military doctrine around the world was released this week by Praeger Security International, a main publisher in the security studies field."Military Doctrine: A Reference Handbook," uses scholarly and governmental literature and documents to show how military doctrine has developed post World War II. In addition to the United States, the book focuses on Australia, Canada, China, England, India, Russia and South Africa to provide an overview of the importance of military doctrine in today's unstable world. The book is Chapman's third, all since 2004, revolving around the military. In 2004 CQ Press published his "Researching National Security and Intelligence Policy." Chapman also produced "Space Warfare and Defense," published in 2008 by ABC-CLIO, which is the parent company of Praeger Publishers. "They are academic books, but I try to make them accessible to the general reader who has an interest in the military's role throughout the world," Chapman said. "You can find extensive analysis in 'Military Doctrine' on strategies." Chapman, a professor of library science and government information and political science librarian, provides relevant government documents, international agreements, monographs, journals, conference papers and Internet resources.
