September 29, 2009 College invites public to experience the liberal artsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's College of Liberal Arts will feature a variety of lectures, films, performances, events and exhibits in October.More than 35 events that exemplify the research and teaching in the arts, humanities, behavioral sciences and social sciences will be featured throughout the month. "The great thing about our college is that liberal arts offers something for everyone, and this month is a chance for us to inspire people on campus and in the community," said Irwin Weiser, interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts. "Technology and landscaping, Italian Renaissance art, girls' interest in sports, religion and economics in China, women, and the war on terror are just some of the topics that will be highlighted." Information about the events is available at https://www.cla.purdue.edu/experience/events The College of Liberal Arts encompasses 12 academic departments: anthropology; communication; English; foreign languages and literatures; health and kinesiology; history; philosophy; political science; psychological sciences; sociology; speech, language and hearing sciences; and visual and performing arts. The college is home to a variety of interdisciplinary programs, including African-American studies, American studies, Asian studies, Asian-American studies, classical studies, comparative literature, film and video studies, global studies, Italian studies, Jewish studies, Latin American and Latino studies, linguistics, medieval and Renaissance studies, peace studies, philosophy and literature, religious studies, and women's studies.
