Mark F. Hagerman began building things when he was a young man, working for fun in his family's construction business warehouse in the summers and Saturday afternoons.

He officially began his more than 40-year career with the family business while still in high school. He started at the bottom and learned the business from the ground up, and along the way learned that anything worth building needs to have a strong foundation. Today, he leads the Hagerman Group as the firm celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Hagerman believes in following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by giving back to the community. For more than 25 years, he has been involved with the nationally recognized Fort Wayne Children's Zoo as a member of the board, twice serving as the board president and chairing the last four capital campaigns, in which he helped raise more than $20 million.

Hagerman Construction was responsible for building several of the buildings on the Purdue campus in West Lafayette. At IPFW, the company was the contractor for five of the main buildings on campus, including Kettler Hall, Walb Student Union, Helmke Library, Classroom Medical and the Science Building. The company also has built many structures in the Fort Wayne community.

Hagerman is a member of the John Purdue Club, and he and his family have established the Ted Hagerman Purdue Foundation Scholarship at IPFW in memory of his late father. The company also was the sponsor of the IPFW-Hagerman Habitat for Humanity House project last year.
