Campus sirens fail to activate during morning, evening tests

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -

Emergency sirens on the Purdue University campus failed to activate during tests Wednesday (March 18) by the Tippecanoe County Emergency Management Agency.

The agency activated sirens countywide at about 10:10 a.m. Wednesday for the annual severe weather awareness drill, and Purdue's sirens did not sound. A second test was conducted at approximately 7:20 p.m., and only one of Purdue's five sirens worked. Purdue officials were able to manually activate all five sirens. The county emergency management agency is working to correct the problem.
