ALERT: Tippecanoe County travel advisory scaled back to Level 3

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Tippecanoe County has changed the current travel watch from a Level 2 to a more favorable Level 3.

The alert, which applies just to unincorporated areas of the county, means that current or expected conditions make travel by motor vehicles hazardous. A Level 3 alert places no restrictions on travel, but motorists are encouraged to provide additional travel time and exercise caution.

Purdue University will be operating on a normal schedule Friday (Jan. 30), including teaching and research functions, said Carol Shelby, senior director for environmental health and public safety. Main roads are wet, with patches of ice and snow. Secondary roads are still snow covered but passable. Beware of drifting on all county roads.

Shelby said that Purdue employees who choose not to report for work should follow departmental leave policies with regard to notifying their supervisor, and students should follow any notification policy required by their professors.

Everyone should dress appropriately for the current conditions and review their winter preparation procedures. The Ready.gov Web site provides winter weather preparation information at https://www.ready.gov/america/beinformed/winter.html

Underground walkways are available at various campus locations and connect several buildings and five parking garages to campus locations.
