January 15, 2009 History of weather-related closures at PurdueFebruary 14, 2007: Purdue declared a 24-hour snow recess that began at noon Feb. 13 and ended at noon Feb. 14. All classes were canceled during that time frame, and most employees were requested to leave the university and/or not report for work during that same time period. Some essential personnel were required to stay on campus for all or part of the duration of the snow recess to maintain the university's essential operationsJanuary 1999: Purdue declared a snow recess during which no classes were in session. All staff and faculty not performing essential duties were sent home or asked not to report to work. January 1994: Purdue suspended classes due to severe cold (wind chill of minus 50 with a temp of minus 17), but faculty and staff reported to work. January 1984: Purdue declared a snow recess. Classes were cancelled, and all staff and faculty not performing essential duties were sent home or asked not to report to work.
