Purdue orchestras to perform Dvorák, Beethoven symphonies

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Symphony Orchestra and the newly formed Purdue Philharmonic Orchestra will perform symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven and Antonín Dvorák during a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 13).

The concert will take place at the Long Center for Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. Admission is free.

Andrew King will direct both groups. The symphony orchestra will perform Dvorák's "Symphony No. 8 in G Major" and the philharmonic orchestra will perform the first, second and final movements of Beethoven's "Symphony No. 3 in E flat Major."

Purdue Bands & Orchestra is sponsoring the concert, which is the group's final event of the fall 2008 season.
