Purdue professor receives fellowship at University of Cambridge

David J. Williams, professor and director of medical illustration and communications in Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine, has received a visiting fellowship in the University of Cambridge's Clare Hall.

Williams also will be a visiting scholar from January through June 2009 in the Department of the History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine at Cambridge.

The University of Cambridge is made up of 31 individual colleges, including Clare, which focuses on advanced study and includes graduate students and senior scholarly visitors and their families from all over the world.

Williams joined Purdue in 1973. In 1993 he became director of medical illustration and communications and in 1996 he was named professor of medical illustration and communications.

He received an associate of art degree from Muskegon County Community College in1964 and a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1966. In 1972, he earned a master's degree from Michigan State University.

Williams has co-written two books, "Veterinary Medicine: An Illustrated History," published in 1995, and "Fundamental Techniques in Veterinary Surgery," published in 1987.
