Committee to aid Purdue search for VP for governmental relations

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University President France A. Córdova has appointed a search advisory committee to identify candidates for the position of vice president for governmental relations.

The committee will lead the search for a successor to Terry D. Strueh, the current vice president for governmental relations who is retiring from the university on June 15.

Purdue's vice president for governmental relations coordinates relationships and communication with the Indiana congressional delegation and the legislative and executive branches of Indiana state government.

"The person selected for this position will play a key role in Purdue's initiatives in Washington, as well as in our relationships with the state of Indiana," Córdova said. "The vice president is our primary liaison with government and will work closely with the provost, the vice president for research and me as we seek to build the university's education and research funding base."

Chairing the committee will be Rabindra Mukerjea, director of strategic planning and assessment.

In addition to Mukerjea, committee members include:

* Pamela T. Horne, dean of admissions and assistant vice president for enrollment management.

* William R. "Randy" Woodson, provost.

* Morgan R. Olsen, executive vice president and treasurer.

* Joseph B. Hornett, senior vice president, treasurer and COO of the Purdue Research Foundation.

* Leah Jamieson, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering.

* Larry DeBoer, agricultural economist in the College of Agriculture.

Strueh served as vice president for state relations from 1999-2001 when his responsibilities expanded to include greater emphasis on federal initiatives. He joined the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service in 1969. From 1976-1992 he served as director of agricultural services. He then served as director of state legislative services until 1996, when he was appointed assistant vice president for state relations, moving up to vice president for state relations in 1999. He currently is a member of the executive committee of the Midwest Higher Education Commission.
