Purdue's Nancy Ho featured in Mike Wallace book

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University researcher Nancy Ho is among 60 of the world's leading scientists, writers, artists, business and civic leaders whose essays were published in a new book edited by veteran TV journalist Mike Wallace.

Ho is a research professor in the School of Chemical Engineering and a senior research scientist in the university's Laboratory of Renewable Resources Engineering.

The book, entitled "The Way We Will be 50 Years from Today: 60 of the World's Greatest Minds Share Their Visions of the Next Half-Century," appeared in April.

Each of the 60 essayists was asked to give an opinion on what the world will be like in 50 years.

Ho, whose research has led to a form of yeast that more efficiently produces ethanol from plant matter, predicts: "Simple biological and physical methods will someday be developed to directly convert carbon dioxide to useful fuels. When that day comes, the energy stored in plants, coal, and petroleum will become fully utilized and recyclable, and the world will never be short of energy."

The book is published by Thomas Nelson and has a list price of $24.99.
