Animal Sciences alumni award nominations due May 1

The Distinguished Animal Sciences Alumni Award recipients represent excellence in industry, academia, government service, or other endeavors based on leadership, community service and professional accomplishments.

"The past recipients of this award have been great representatives of the industry and Purdue," said Barry Delks, animal sciences coordinator of career services and alumni relations. "We are enthused about recognizing a new group in 2008."

The award is open to any animal science graduate who earned a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree from Purdue. There are three award categories: the Early Career Award for those who have been working from 1993 to 2003; the Mid-Career Award for alumni who have been working from 1978 to 1992; and the Lifetime Career Award for alumni with more than 31 years of experience. The time is based on when the nominee's first degree from the department was earned.

Nomination forms are available online at https://www.ansc.purdue.edu/alumni/ANSC_DAA2008.pdf. To make a nomination, a person or group must be affiliated with the Department of Animal Sciences, Purdue or the animal science industry.

"The awards ceremony will be Nov. 21, and the recipients will speak to the department and students to discuss their careers in animal sciences and their achievements," Delks said. "It is always a great experience when alumni come back and share experiences with the students."

The completed nomination form should include the nominee's resume and a typed one-page description of the nominee's accomplishments, which could include contributions to the industry, academia, government service, or other endeavors as exemplified by leadership, community service and professional accomplishments.

The nomination form should be mailed to the Distinguished Animal Sciences Alumni Award Committee, in care of Barry Delks, Department of Animal Sciences, 915 W. State St., Lilly Hall, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2054.
