March 17, 2008 Appointments, honors and activitiesCampus activities — President France A. Córdova, Susan Bulkeley Butler and Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman will speak at the third annual "Own Your Future: A Woman's guide to Success" at 7 p.m. March 17 at Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. The event is sponsored by the Purdue Panhellenic Association and the Women's Resource Office. A reception prior to the event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. in Purdue Memorial Union, Room 118. For more information, contact wro@purdue.edu. — George Elliott Clarke, the E.J. Pratt Professor of Canadian Literature at the University of Toronto, will present "African/Black Canadian Literature: An Introduction," from 3-4:30 p.m. April 3 at the Black Cultural Center, Multipurpose Room 1. The talk is part of the African American Studies & Research Center's Conversations on the Diaspora series. Faculty and staff honors — Purdue Professor Emeritus W. Dale Compton delivered a lecture, "Engineering and the System of Healthcare Delivery," in Albuquerque, N.M., at the University of New Mexico's Science & Society Distinguished Public Talks on March 13. Compton is the Lillian M. Gilbreth Distinguished Professor of Physics at Purdue's School of Industrial Engineering. He also is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and was instrumental in the launch of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering at Purdue's Discovery Park in 2005. Alumni honors — Stacy Bartoletti, who earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1991, was recently named president and chief operating officer of Degenkolb Engineers, a leading structural engineering firm in the design and seismic strengthening of buildings. The company has offices in California, Oregon and Washington. Bartoletti, former president of the Delta Sigma Phi Purdue chapter, has spent nearly 15 years at Degenkolb. He has testified before Congress on seismic safety and has actively participated in the development of the CREW Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake Scenario as well as the EERI Seattle Fault Scenario.
