February 25, 2008 Junior wins Miss Purdue Scholarship Pageant titleWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Kelly Bouwman, a Purdue University junior in the School of Management, on Saturday (Feb. 23) was named the winner of the Miss Purdue Scholarship Pageant.Bouwman of Fremont, Ind., won more than $1,000 in scholarship money and gifts from local businesses. She also will go on to compete in June's Miss Indiana Pageant in Zionsville, Ind., where thousands of dollars in scholarships will be available, as well as a trip to the Miss America pageant. Twelve students participated Purdue's pageant, which is affiliated with the Miss America Organization. Contestants had to be full-time Purdue students between the ages of 18-23. Other top finishers include: Paige Brandt, a junior in the College of Education from West Lafayette, Ind., first runner-up; Laura Malnar, a senior in the College of Consumer and Family Sciences from Vincennes, Ind., second runner-up; Jacklyn Talbert, a freshman in the School of Management from Russiaville, Ind., third runner-up; and Mallory Kruckman, a master's degree candidate in the School of Pharmacy from Libertyville, Ill., fourth runner-up. Brandt received the Boilermaker Spirit Award and Kruckman was the winner of the People's Choice Award.
