February 18, 2008 College of Technology at Anderson receives scholarship fundsANDERSON, Ind. - Independent Federal Credit Union is investing $5,000 in scholarship funds for students at Purdue University's College of Technology at Anderson.Jody Pierce, assistant location director at Anderson, said the credit union is providing $1,000 a year for the next five years in scholarship funds, beginning in the fall of 2008. The scholarships will be awarded to students in technology fields taking classes at the Anderson/Muncie location. "We are grateful that Independent Federal Credit Union has chosen to make an investment that will have a real impact in our students' lives," Pierce said. "This is a wonderful example of how Purdue can collaborate with business to make a difference in the community." Norm Getts, president and CEO of Independent Federal Credit Union, said his business is proud to partner with Purdue for these scholarships. "This is a terrific opportunity to both help students and increase our credit union's visibility in the Anderson community," he said. "The Anderson and east-central Indiana area has been hit hard in recent years by economic changes, and we feel that education is what is going to help this area make a strong turnaround." Pierce, along with Purdue staff and faculty members, will present credit union officials with a plaque formalizing the partnership on Feb. 26 at the College of Technology at Anderson.
